Ridiculous Brofist teaser

Not dead! Honest! But here’s a teaser of a mini-comic series that’s been fermenting in my head for a long time – I’ll be hashing them in my sketch book and then drawing them in more ‘finished’ form for online perusal & casual enjoyment.

ETA: SOON – as in, it’s what I’m working on at the moment.

EDIT: Crap, serves me right for not double-checking myself; SPELLING FAIL in the image.

Not dead yet…

It’s been far too long since my last update, and I apologize. Unfortunately no one seems to be watching this space except for the occasional googler in search of something that’s not here, so I’m not getting any pitchforks to the butt to post something.

I had attempted to tackle a real weak area of mine: Girls. I really hate how I draw girls’ faces sometimes, and often I just avoid the subject outright… It’s an unforgiving subject matter – deviate but a little, and wham. UGGO. Or worse yet, it looks like Greg Land. For those of you that don’t know him, he’s down there with Liefeld; often tracing right off of celebrity photos, or worse yet, porno. So his art features what should be a face of pain is really a face of… well, you get the idea.

So there was a couple attempts and despite trying to push past them and not looking too hard at them…. I couldn’t post them once I stood back and looked. I really do need to crack this egg as I have a number of painting ideas that involve girl faces in them, and I want to do ’em justice. I’m going to have to do some re-reading of some of my artbooks, and god-forbid, draw from some of them. I really hate the idea of sketching from a book, as it’s only a small step from tracing, but well, a lot of the great artists say that’s how they learn. Well I just have to suck it up, eh?

Expect some art shortly (likely non-female, obviously.)

Claimed

Claimed, originally uploaded by Red Chunks.

After close to a week, the finished painting!
I decided after a bit to call it “Claimed” – as I did aim to make it look like, well, one’s soul being “marked” for ownership.
I’m definitely going to paint more often, although my next few paintings will be more strictly monochrome to spare my sanity when it comes to mixing colors & trying to get the colors right.

Done with Acrylics on canvas.
